Although many consumers look to Black Friday for the best deals of the holiday season, retailers are amping up sales in December to compete with the new retail holidays November brings. As much as 30 percent of some retailers’ sales happen during the holiday season. December 2017 retail sales beat economists’ predictions, and December 2018 is on track to do the same. While both in store and online sales have steadily increased in quarter four since 2009, e-commerce is experiencing the biggest growth. Last year, non-store retailer sales were up 12.7 percent in December, as compared to data from 2016. These statistics point to the idea that though consumers still heavily rely on brick-and-mortar stores for holiday shopping needs, many, especially in the month of December, are enjoying the increased ease and comfort on online shopping to fulfill these gift needs. Many people look towards the holiday season to purchase mattresses, toppers, sheets, and pillows for themselves or loved ones because of the increased amount of sales in this product category.
