8 Late Night Snacks You Won’t Regret

8 Late Night Snacks You Won’t Regret

We’ve all been there; just a couple hours after dinner, maybe an hour or two before bed, and our stomach feels slightly empty or we can feel a sweet tooth coming on. We know it’s not recommended to eat right before we go to bed, but sometimes we feel like we NEED something, and if we don’t we might be restless and have a hard time getting to sleep. Don’t fret, as there are snacks that can satisfy your craving, without making you feel guilty afterwards. Here are 9 late night snacks that you won’t regret.

1. Apples and Peanut Butter

Apples have that nice, satisfying crunch and enough fiber to keep you full through the night. Add your favorite style of peanut butter (we like the creamy kind with apples) and you have a delicious, healthy snack that’s sweet yet filling.

2. String Cheese

Who doesn’t love cheese? Exactly, and just when you thought it couldn’t get it any better, there’s string cheese, which allows you to eat it a couple of ways, bite it, or eat it in strings like we do. It also has tryptophan (the thing in turkey that makes you sleepy), and since they’re individually packaged, it’s easier to control and know how much of it you eat.

3. Greek Yogurt

Plain greek yogurt packs the protein in very few calories and hardly any fat. Sweeten it up with some honey, or mix in your favorite fruit. Smooth, Creamy, Sweet. What else could you want in a bed time snack.

4. Cereal

There’s something about having like cereal for dessert that almost makes it better than cereal for breakfast; no we’re not talking about incredibly sugary cereals Fruity Pebbles or Reese’s Puffs (too sweet in our opinion), but better-for-you cereals that contain whole grains, granola, and maybe even some nuts or dried fruit.

5. Air-Popped Popcorn

For those craving something savory instead, popcorn could be just what the doctor ordered. Beware, we’re not talking the movie theatre smothered in “buttery topping” (which is not actually real butter), or even the microwavable kind. Get an air popper for light, fluffy, salty popcorn without all the oil.

6. Tea with Honey

If you just like a hint of a sweet tooth, and aren’t necessarily hungry, give a decaffeinated cup of tee a try, and mix in your favorite honey. Like a little spice with that warmth? Stir in a cinnamon stick for a little kick. Not sure which type of tea to go with? No worries, check out our post on best teas for bed time.

7. Banana (However you Like)

Bananas. So sweet, beloved, and so versatile. Have it straight up for a quick snack (with no prep or mess to clean up), or blend it into a smoothie with milk for a nice night cap. Mix it into some of your favorite cereal or in a sandwich with peanut butter (we love peanut butter). There’s no wrong way to eat a banana.

8. Trail Mix

Nuts, Dried Berries, Maybe a little bit of chocolate. If you don’t want to compromise on sweet or salty, trail mix is your go to. Just a handful of it should help kick that craving, and provide you with a nice mix of chewy and crunchy textures.
